Community Guidelines

Building a respectful, welcoming community for video chat users worldwide.

Introduction to Our Community Standards

ChatEro is home to a diverse global community united by curiosity, openness, and the desire for meaningful connection. These community guidelines exist to ensure that every user can participate in a safe, enjoyable, and respectful environment. By using ChatEro, you agree to uphold these standards and contribute positively to our community.

Our guidelines are not about censorship or restricting expression. Rather, they establish the basic framework of respect and consideration that allows millions of people from vastly different backgrounds to coexist peacefully and enjoy valuable interactions. Think of these rules as the foundation of civil society applied to our digital space.

We take these guidelines seriously and enforce them consistently. Violations can result in warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans depending on severity and frequency. Our goal is always to maintain a community where people feel comfortable being themselves while respecting the comfort and safety of others.

Core Principles

Respect for All Individuals

Every person you encounter on ChatEro deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, political views, or any other characteristic. Our global community includes people from all walks of life, and this diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Harassment, discrimination, and hateful language have no place on our platform.

This principle extends beyond obvious offensive behavior. It includes being mindful of cultural differences in communication styles, being patient with language barriers, and approaching conversations with genuine curiosity rather than judgment. Remember that behind every video feed is a real person with real feelings.

Authenticity and Honesty

We value genuine interactions over manufactured performances. While we don't require users to share personal information, the interactions themselves should be authentic. Don't engage in deception designed to manipulate others, whether that's pretending to be someone you're not, fabricating stories, or creating false emotional connections for malicious purposes.

Personal Responsibility

You are responsible for your own behavior on ChatEro. While we provide safety tools and moderation, the ultimate responsibility for your actions lies with you. Think before you speak (or type), consider the potential impact of your words and actions on others, and take ownership of any mistakes you make. We all slip up sometimes - what matters is how we respond when we do.

Prohibited Behavior

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited on ChatEro. Users engaging in these activities may face immediate and permanent suspension.

Sexual and Explicit Content

ChatEro is not a platform for sexual content or interactions. Do not engage in, display, or share sexually explicit material. Do not expose yourself on camera. Do not make sexual advances toward other users or engage in sexting. Do not use sexual language or innuendo in interactions with unwilling participants. These behaviors create hostile environments and are often illegal.

Harassment and Bullying

Harassment in any form is unacceptable. This includes verbal abuse, insults, threats, intimidation, and sustained patterns of negative behavior targeting specific individuals. Bullying, whether directed at specific users or groups, undermines the psychological safety of our community and will not be tolerated. If you wouldn't say something to someone's face in a professional setting, don't say it here.

Hate Speech and Discrimination

We have zero tolerance for hate speech, defined as content that attacks or demeans a group or individual based on protected characteristics. This includes but is not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, religious intolerance, and xenophobia. Even if you believe certain viewpoints are legitimate, ChatEro is not the appropriate venue for promoting hate or discrimination.

Violence and Threats

Do not threaten violence against any individual or group. Do not promote, glorify, or encourage violent acts. Do not share content depicting graphic violence. Do not use ChatEro to organize real-world harmful activities. Such behavior is not only against our guidelines but may also constitute criminal activity in many jurisdictions.

Illegal Activities

Do not use ChatEro to facilitate illegal activities of any kind. This includes but is not limited to drug dealing, fraud, hacking, copyright infringement, or any other illegal conduct. We cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies investigating illegal activity on our platform.

Spam and Commercial Promotion

ChatEro is not a marketplace or advertising platform. Do not use our service for commercial solicitation, spam, or repetitive promotional content. While incidental mention of your work or projects in genuine conversation may be acceptable, systematic promotion or selling is prohibited.

Specific Rule Categories

Age-Restricted Content

ChatEro is intended for adult users. Users must be of legal age in their jurisdiction to use our service. Do not engage with minors in any sexual or inappropriate manner. Report immediately if you encounter someone who appears to be underage. Any attempt to circumvent age restrictions is a serious violation.

Impersonation

Do not impersonate public figures, other users, or any individual or organization. While discussing public figures in conversation is fine, claiming to be someone you're not for deceptive purposes violates our guidelines. This includes using profile information, photos, or video feeds that belong to someone else.

Privacy Violations

Respect the privacy of other users. Do not record, screenshot, or otherwise capture content from your video chats without the explicit consent of the other participant. Do not share personal information about other users that you learned through ChatEro. Do not attempt to contact users outside the platform if they've asked you not to or if they've blocked you.

Technical Abuse

Do not attempt to hack, exploit, or otherwise abuse the technical infrastructure of ChatEro. This includes but is not limited to distributing malware, attempting to bypass safety filters, manipulating the matching system, or interfering with other users' connections. Technical abuse harms everyone and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of our ability.

Reporting Violations

If you encounter behavior that violates these guidelines, it's important to report it. Reporting helps our moderation team identify issues and take appropriate action. Here is how to report effectively:

Using the Report Feature

During any video chat, you can use the prominent report button to flag problematic behavior. Be specific about what you experienced. Our system captures information about the conversation, which our moderation team reviews. Reports can be submitted for single incidents or ongoing issues.

What to Include in Reports

Effective reports include: the specific behavior you witnessed, why it violated guidelines (if obvious), any patterns you noticed, and your assessment of severity. Screenshots or recordings, where permitted by law, can be helpful but are not required. Our team investigates all reports thoroughly.

After Reporting

After submitting a report, you may disconnect from the conversation. You don't need to continue engaging with the offending party. Our team reviews reports in a timely manner, though investigation times vary based on complexity. You'll typically see action taken within hours for serious violations.

Enforcement and Consequences

When violations occur, we take graduated enforcement actions based on the severity and context of the behavior.

Warning System

First-time minor violations may result in a warning. Warnings serve to educate users about why certain behavior is problematic. Many users correct their behavior after receiving a single warning. We aim to be fair rather than punitive when possible.

Temporary Suspensions

More serious violations or repeated minor violations may result in temporary account suspension. During suspension, users cannot access the platform. Suspensions typically last from 24 hours to several weeks depending on the nature of the violation.

Permanent Bans

The most serious violations, including but not limited to sexual misconduct, hate speech, death threats, or repeated harassment after prior enforcement actions, result in permanent bans. Banned users may not access ChatEro under any circumstances. We share ban information across our network to prevent banned users from creating new accounts.

Appeal Process

Users who believe their enforcement action was taken in error may submit an appeal. Our trust and safety team reviews appeals and can reinstate accounts if an error is identified. However, appeals are reviewed objectively, and demonstrating that you didn't intend to violate guidelines doesn't overturn enforcement if the behavior clearly occurred.

Building a Positive Community

Beyond simply avoiding prohibited behavior, we encourage users to actively contribute to a positive community atmosphere.

Be an Ambassador

Model the behavior you'd like to see in others. Treat fellow users with kindness, patience, and respect. Be mindful of cultural differences in humor and communication styles. When you encounter someone who seems struggling or upset, consider responding with compassion rather than frustration.

Help New Users

If you encounter someone who seems new to the platform or confused about how things work, offering guidance can make their experience much better. A simple explanation or word of encouragement can go a long way in making someone feel welcome.

Provide Feedback

Help us improve ChatEro by providing constructive feedback about your experiences. If you encounter issues, let us know. If you have ideas for making the platform better, share them. Our community shapes what ChatEro becomes.

Guideline Updates

These community guidelines may be updated periodically to reflect new situations, emerging concerns, or changes to our platform. When updates occur, we'll communicate them through our website and, where appropriate, directly to users. Continued use of ChatEro following any guideline changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.

We encourage all users to periodically review these guidelines to stay informed about community standards. If you have questions about specific situations or interpretations, our support team is available to help.

Join Our Respectful Community

By following these guidelines, you help create a space where millions of people can connect safely and enjoy meaningful conversations. Thank you for being part of ChatEro.
